Parkinson’s disease (PD) can look different for everyone, and early signs often show up slowly over time. Many people don’t realize what they’re noticing could be related to Parkinson’s at all.
Some possible early warning signs include:
- Tremor
- Small or cramped handwriting
- Loss of smell
- Constipation
- Sleep problems
- Less facial expression ( “masked” face)
- A softer or lower voice
- Dizziness or fainting
- Stooped posture
- Slower movement or stiffness
Having one of these symptoms doesn’t mean you have Parkinson’s. But if you’re noticing more than one, it’s a good idea to talk with your doctor.
If you are diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, one of the most important steps is seeing a neurologist or Movement Disorder Specialist to guide your medical care. Just as important is finding support and resources to help you live well with Parkinson’s.
That’s where the Indiana Parkinson Foundation (IPF) comes in. We’re here to walk alongside individuals with Parkinson’s and their families, offering vital programs and services that improve their lives physically, mentally and spiritually.
Through our pillars of exercise, education, and encouragement we provide a comprehensive approach to living your best life with Parkinson’s. John G., who has been part of the IPF community for many years, puts it simply:
“You’ve got to have a different attitude with Parkinson’s. You’ve got to keep moving. We’re not quitting.”
