Together Today

Together Today invites adults 55+ to enrich their lives through fun, educational, and healthy activities with friends new and established.

Our Together Today Program provides an excellent opportunity for older adults to get together on a regular basis, make new friends, and have a wonderful time socializing together. An important side benefit is that the participants develop a very caring attitude toward each other and look out for each other’s welfare. The goal of the program is to prevent isolation and create community.

Together Today is a time of gathering for lively conversation, playing cards and games, enjoying entertaining and educational programs, and sharing lunch. Nearly every location meets on a weekly basis. The groups begin with coffee and donuts with social time full of games and catching up with friends.  Lunch is provided by a generous sponsor to the group, followed by a planned activity or presentation. The program is free of charge to any older adults in Hamilton County. Transportation is available upon request.

Don’t go it alone. Join us at Together Today!

What You Can Expect At Together Today

When you arrive at Together Today, you will be welcomed by our lead volunteers.  They will introduce you to the group participants and help you get to know everyone.  In the morning, many participants enjoy cards, dominos, and other games, while socializing.  Around noon, lunch is provided by one of our Together Today sponsors. The sponsor will chat about their organization and answer questions from the group.  After lunch, the sponsor will lead an activity such as Bingo, presentation on aging issues, or a music performance. You will leave Together Today with new friends and ready to come back next week.

Together Today Program Guidelines

The following Together Today guidelines support the purpose of the program and the mission of the Shepherd’s Center of Hamilton County:

  • Together Today is open to anyone 55+ who lives in Hamilton County. Caregivers are welcome to attend the group with an older adult, if needed.
  • Together Today participants should be respectful to all other participants, volunteers, hosts, and sponsors at the program. While personalities and opinions may differ, everyone should be treated with an equal level of respect, grace, and care.
  • Together Today Lead Volunteers are the leaders of the group. Their instructions and requests should be followed, and their time should be valued.
  • Participants are encouraged to bring friends.
  • Participants are welcome to give feedback and concerns on the programming to SCHC staff.
  • Sponsors and host sites for our Together Today program help ensure that there is no charge to attend. Their time, resources, and food help the program run smoothly. Show them gratitude for their generosity.
  • Together Today is an inclusive group—meaning all are welcome to join.
